Very nice rod, as it should be for the price tag ($146.95 with shipping after a 10% discount code). I love the orange color and admittedly that's what got me to try one. Rated 1-6 oz and I have no doubt it will cast that much.

Okuma also makes nice surf rods, but they are light powered rods not designed for casting large payloads, they are excellent light duty rods though, perfect for channels. Damrod.

Feb 2, 2011 · Before that I used a "Rockfish Combo" Silstar 8' spinning outfit bought about 1985 and Mitchell 300 and DAM Quick 220 spinnig reels on 7' fiberglass rods for catfishing, plus an Abu 5000 on a 6-1/2' MH Ugly Stik. About a yr ago I got a 12' surf spinning outfit and it will throw half a pound or better comfortably.

Mine would be a 7'6 catmaxx rod , bass pro mega cast baitcaster reel (the big version). 20 pound line 2 oz. weight 5 ought hook swivel with a 50 pound leader.

Back about 1984 or 1985 I wanted to give snagging a try. Also, the guys with the really long rods were casting out half again as far as I was.

Feb 7, 2019 · There are plenty of worthy contenders but my top flathead rod is the Okuma Battlecat. Those rods have a nice backbone and the tips are fantastic. I've sampled most of the contenders but have yet to test the Warrior Cat and Catfish Fever models. Good luck and enjoy the conference. eastforker.

At night I lock the drag down on 10' surf rods and let the catfish pull them down off a bridge I fish on. The bridge has drain holes in it every 10' so that we can put up 12 of them in a line.
