Aix is (I guess you could say) at the opposite end of the spectrum, a city of about 150,000 with typical cultural sights in the core which are described in guidebooks (it's impossible to accurately describe a place in the space we have here).

Oct 31, 2024 · Day 4 Belem. Walked 7.1 flat miles. For a break from a day without hills we headed to Belem. It was a miserable morning with a misty rain and wind, but also 20C with 96% humidity making it too hot for a rain jacket but too wet not to have one.

Last year we stayed in Nice -day trips near there and 1 week at a beautiful house in Eygalières near St.Remy. Did La Baux, Camargue, Arles, Aix, Avignon.

Apr 9, 2020 · I wouldn't say the south of France is your best spot for a week of "hiking and swimming" with some culture. For beaches and hiking, maybe Antibes or Nice. Or, The Camargue. We skipped it, but it does have beaches, kayaking and hiking and nature, and, I'm told, big mosquitos.

Apr 28, 2019 · However, it is within day trip distance of my favorite part of France: l'Herault where there is a wealth of sightseeing opportunities, including the Gorge d'Herault and Pezenas. It is also close to the Pont du Gard, and Sete is a wonderful town to visit and have lunch. Other day trips are Arles and the Camargue, the estuary of the Rhone River.

Feb 10, 2015 · We used L'Isle sur le Sorgue as a home base for Provence also.We did have a car. We loved the Sunday market which has many antiques....but the town itself is so very interesting.Antique dealers from all over France have spaces tucked away in different areas of town and are usually there from Friday thru Sunday when there is a large market.
Rick Steves tour VS Road Scholar tour -- tour decision made
Jul 9, 2023 · Starting in 2024, The La Moscadella agriturismo will no longer be included in the RS Tuscany tour. They are moving to a “7 night minimum” business model. That is a real pity, because it is one of the nicest, most luxurious places we have ever stayed. ( tour or independent). It will be replaced with the agriturismo at the Marenna cattle ranch.
South of France - train or car? - Rick Steves Travel Forum
Apr 27, 2015 · We have gone through this area by train, between Antibes and Carcassonne, then between Carcassonne and Barcelona. We have also stayed 8 nights in Aix-en-Provence with a car and explored as far down the coast as the Camargue and Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and as far the other direction as Cannes.
