The New England Patriots came up short this week in a tough loss to the Los Angeles Rams, falling behind early and struggling to keep pace. Despite a late-game push, the Patriots’ efforts were undone by a costly interception thrown by rookie quarterback Drake Maye in the final minutes.

New England’s defense allowed four passing touchdowns by Matthew Stafford, and receivers Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua each had over 100 yards.

Maye looked at his best under center. He was reading the defense and seeing the field like he’d been playing in the NFL for several years. You would have never known he was a rookie making only his sixth NFL start. He went 30-of-40 passing for 281 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

The rookie coach who offered up some highly insulting verbiage about his team earlier in the year is seeing his questionable decisions adding up — in the form of losses.
