This week, the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) released a joint statement (via TechSpot) confirming that Chinese hackers were behind several breaches of US telecommunications providers. However, they also compromised wiretap systems used by law enforcement for surveillance.

China-affiliated hackers have compromised US officials’ data through a large-scale hack on telecommunications providers, according to the US government. The FBI and the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) published a joint advisory on November 13 in which they shared more details on what they called “a broad and significant cyber espionage campaign.

The FBI and CISA previously said they were investigating breaches by a China-backed hacking group inside several telecommunications providers but had not said whether any data was stolen or whether the hackers accessed the systems used to fulfill legal wiretap requests.
