Tata Motors has announced a Rs 9,000 crore investment in Tamil Nadu for a new plant dedicated to electric vehicles. The facility aims to create over 5,000 jobs and will use 100% renewable energy, reinforcing Tatas commitment to sustainability.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday laid the foundation stone for Tata Motors new facility at Panapakkam SIPCOT, Ranipet, that would produce sports cars and SUVs.

The auto major's plant, which entails an investment of Rs 9,000 crore would produce next generation vehicles for both Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), the British arm of the car maker, the company said.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin, N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Motors and other dignitaries.

The manufacturing plant is expected to produce vehicles for Tata Motors and JLR, catering to the requirements of both Indian and international markets.
