“The Wild Robot” took the top spot at the box office and exceeded many projections for its debut weekend, multiple outlets reported Sunday, as Francis Ford Coppola’s self-financed “Megalopolis” flopped.

Megalopolis opened with a disappointing $4 million at the domestic box office, despite boasting a star-studded cast and direction by Francis Ford Coppola. The film currently holds a 49% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 55 out of 100 on Metacritic based on early reviews.

Universal/DreamWorks’ “The Wild Robot” is showing it has the makings of a lengthy run at the box office, earning a solid $35 million domestic opening weekend from 3,982 theaters.
