The South Carolina Republican’s resolution comes two weeks after the historic election of Democrat Sarah McBride, a trans woman, to Congress.

South Carolina Republican Rep. Nancy Mace introduced a resolution to ban transgender women from using the womens’ restrooms at the Capitol.

The restriction, if passed by the full House, would go into effect in January just as Congress’s first trans lawmaker, Democratic Rep.-elect Sarah McBride of Delaware, begins her term.

McBride, the first out transgender person elected to Congress, will be serving in the House starting next year and Mace doesn't want her using women's bathrooms at the Capitol.
