The Fort Worth Zoo has welcomed its second mandrill birth of the year. A male monkey named Jasper was born on Sept. 13 to second-time parents Scarlett and J.J., zoo officials announced Monday. Jasper is the younger brother of sister Ruby, who was born in January and was the zoo’s first mandrill birth since 1995.

Following in the footsteps of Moo Deng and Pesto, Jasper, a rare baby mandrill born at the Fort Worth Zoo, is ready to capture the hearts of many. Jasper is the second mandrill born at the Fort Worth Zoo in nearly three decades, following his sister, Ruby, who was born in January.

A sad update from officials with the Phoenix Zoo, as they say they had to put down Howard, which is one of their Southern White Rhinos. Howard, a zoo favorite, arrived in 2020 from Florida.
