After suffering an injury in the Carolina Panthers' loss to the Cincinnati Bengals over the weekend, star linebacker Shaq Thompson is expected to miss the remainder of the NFL season. He is believed to have suffered an Achilles tear and will have an MRI later on to determine the severity.

Thompson sustained an Achilles tear in Week 4, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reports. The only Carolina starter left from Super Bowl 50, Thompson is in the final year of his contract. This is obviously a tough blow to Thompson’s value, as he is now 30 and will exit this season coming off two major injuries.

Shaq Thompson will miss the remainder of the season with a torn Achilles tendon and fellow linebacker Josey Jewell will be out at least a couple of games with a hamstring/groin injury, creating more holes for a unit that can’t afford to lose any more key players.
