CNN, one of the most popular news websites in the world, is starting to ask some of its visitors to pay $3.99 a month for access.

CNN has rolled out a paywall and is asking some of its users to pay $3.99 a month for access to its content, the news website said on Tuesday, as it looks to generate a digital revenue stream. The move comes at a time when several publications such as the New York Times have already launched and seen success with subscription models that have helped boost subscriber numbers.

CNN has long had one of the most visited news websites in the world. Starting Tuesday, users are going to have to pay for it. The Warner Bros. Discovery-owned news operation is putting a paywall on CNN.

News outlet Reuters (NYSE:TRI) will introduce a paywall and charge readers who visit the news site and apps, WSJ reported on Tuesday. Earlier in the day, CNN (NASDAQ:WBD) said it will put up a paywall in the U.

It has a much better chance of success than CNN+ ever did. But it still has to convince people its work is distinctive enough to break out the credit card.
