Hi Kathleen, Yes you can park at the Mohonk Preserve Center where you can gain access after obtain a Property Pass. Also the location is a exhibit center to learn more about this wonder property that is very historical. Remember that during Peak Season it gets very busy and crowded. If you want to enjoy something different by being a Day Guest at the House you can enjoy the Lunch, the property by the House, See the Gardens, Go to the Tower, Around the Lake and the additional trails that branch off those other trails near the house. Also you can enjoy the tea time there. Walking the Preserve is just the forest and trails and scenery. For a very long walk from the Preserve you can make it to the House thru the back way of the property to the lake. We have been going to the Mountain House for the last 39 years as a guest and love all the trails on the property, There is a special experience especially with the lookouts by the valley at every turn. Enjoy you experiences...

My review is about the Mohonk Preserve and not the hotel. Yes the hotel is extremely expensive. A good value can be had by staying at the Minnewaska Lodge which is close to the Preserve. You can access the amenities of the Mohonk Hotel by booking a spa treatment or lunch and be able to enjoy the hotel for the day.
